The Origin Story
of the ghost hunter series
I came across this article by Max Kutner in 2015. The idea and the imagery have haunted my imagination since. I wanted there to be someone who could battle this abomination--and inflict grievous bodily harm on the perpetrators in setting things right. This was the seed that became Max Sinclair, The Ghost Hunter.
The egg, as it were, was a personal encounter I had with two ghosts when I was living in Thailand. These ghosts, whom I saw in two separate incidents, opened my eyes to the reality: ghosts exist. I have not seen ghosts since, but those two made a believer of me. I wanted Max to be able to see the liminal world that lies between our world and the next. I've written up the story a couple of different ways. The version I offer you makes this experience Max's. Otherwise, it's as close as I can make it to my own.

The Bad Beginning
Max Sinclair has had enough. He resigns his commission as an officer in the special forces and retires to train Muay Thai in Thailand. But his violent past colors the spiritual path of the Muay Thai boxer, and the Amnat Meut—the Thai mafia—are big players in the boxing world. Max clashes with the Amnat Meut early. Ultimately, not only is his beloved Muay Thai camp and everyone there in peril, he is in danger of losing the one thing he came to Thailand for: to save his soul. The Bad Beginning is a prequel to the series and can be read before or after any of the others. Follow Max's journey with the Ghost Hunter Series. |
