Ghost hunter: Slouching Toward Tenancingo
A paranormal vigilante justice thriller
Max Sinclair is heading straight into the heart of evil: Tenancingo—center of the Mexican human trafficking industry. There’s a man down there that’s done someone he loves wrong, and Max aims at setting things straight.
On the way, he’s accumulated some powerful enemies—of the cartel variety—and attracted the attention of the Black Queen: Mexico’s most prominent priestess to Santa Muerte.
Hunted by the Queen, haunted by the dead, fueled by a fierce desire for justice, Max wages war against the evil that blackens the land. But with the Barrera cartel's five million dollar bounty on his head, odds are he won't make it to his final reckoning.
Slouching toward tenancingo is the second novel in the Ghost Hunter series about a vigilante who sees the dead—Max Sinclair. Haunted by visions and longing for justice and redemption, Max hunts down evil incarnate—his soul hanging in the balance as he walks the line between the dark and the light.

"For over a decade Ed Calderon worked in the fields of counter narcotics, organized crime investigation, and public safety in the northern-border region of Mexico. During this period he also coordinated and worked executive protection details for high-level government officials and visiting dignitaries — often in some of the most dangerous parts of the country.
Ed Calderon's study in to the indigenous Méxican criminal culture, from occult practices to endemic modus operandi have lead him to be recognized as one of the worlds preeminent researchers and trainers in the field of personal security that have come out of Mexico. Ed has had the privilege of sharing his expertise with members of federal law enforcement agencies including the FBI and BORTAC, Navy SEALS, Indonesian Kapaska , Mexican and United States intelligence service agents, and members of special forces groups from all over the world.
Currently, Ed travels North America doing security consulting and conducting seminars and private training courses in anti-abduction, escapology, unarmed combat, region specific executive protection work and unconventional edged weapons work. "

Hernández Anabel, et al. Narcoland: The Mexican Drug Lords and Their Godfathers. Verso, 2013.
One of the most courageous acts of writing in history. Anabel Hernandez digs deep into the power structure of her native land, shining a light on all who traffic in the ongoing narco culture. The book informed my drawing of several characters in Slouching Toward Tenancingo. Ultimately, I found it a depressing read: the tendrils of the cartels have reached into every nook and cranny of the culture. Lomnitz-Adler, Claudio. Death and the Idea of Mexico. Zone, 2008. This book is a deep philosophical analysis of the political history and cultural anthropology of death in Mexico. A wonderful, exhaustive work on death as an idea. This informed the subtext that worked the theme of death throughout Slouching Toward Tenancingo. Rollin, Tracey. Santa Muerte: The History, Rituals, and Magic of Our Lady of the Holy Death. Weiser Books, 2017. This is a thorough introduction into all things Santa Muerte. The author speaks from a depth of experience. Her work gave me a sense of the kinds of spells a pracitioner might cast. Worth noting: there is not a single word about blood sacrifices in here: all of that is a product of my own imagination. As is The Black Queen. Valdez, Javier, and Everard Meade. The Taken: True Stories of the Sinaloa Drug War. University of Oklahoma Press, 2017. This well-researched book is a chilling work of journalism that documents the stories of those who've been swept away by the various elements in the ongoing narco wars. Almost none of these people did anything wrong. Nothing. The book informed many aspects of Slouching Toward Tenancingo and is well-worth your time and effort. |
